Community Service Opportunities

Local Food Banks

The COVID-19 pandemic has created an urgent need for volunteers at local food banks. In some cases, they have seen the number of clients double since May. Needs include the following: drivers (both to pick up and deliver donations), donations, workers at the food bank to sort donations and assist customers, and more. Individual Websites offer more specifics.

  • Commitments can range from a few hours a month to weekly commitments, all scheduled through a convenient app. For Brent Food Bank and Camden Food Bank information, go to volunteer.trusselltrust.org/opportunities.
  • The Brent Food Bank is the one in real need of volunteers. It has two locations, both with limited parking for those who prefer to drive.
  • Food Bank Aid: North London does all its volunteer outreach via Facebook. You can find simple, clear and comprehensive weekly updates there.
  • North Paddington Food Bank www.npfoodbank.org.uk
Located in Maida Vale and has an excellent website with an easy volunteer sign up process.

The Winch - Ongoing Opportunities

  • Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there are currently no regular volunteer opportunities for us at The Winch. Although there are no formal SJWWC community service opportunities at this time due to COVID, there is a GREAT need for volunteers at local food banks. Please see the Local Food Banks section above for details.
